Join Dr. Anna Kelles, candidate for NYS Assembly, and three experts on community health for this "virtual town hall" discussion on public policy and wellness in the time of a pandemic. ABOUT OUR PANELISTS:
Dr. Anna Kelles currently serves as a Tompkins County legislator and chairs the Housing and Economic Development Committee. She is also a course designer of an eCornell Certificate program in Sustainability and the Food System for the T. Colin Campbell Center for Nutrition Studies. Before becoming a legislator, she earned her PhD in Nutritional Epidemiology from UNC - Chapel Hill. She was a faculty in nutrition and public health at Ithaca College and Cornell and the director of the School of Clinical Nutrition at New York Chiropractic College before starting a private practice in nutrition and wellness in 2015. She is currently a candidate for the NYS Assembly seat representing Tompkins and Cortland counties.
Kathleen Bergin, JD is an attorney and Adjunct Professor who teaches Disaster Law at Cornell Law School. She has successfully advocated for communities facing human rights violations after catastrophic disasters, such as Hurricane Katrina, the 2010 Haiti earthquake, Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico, and Cyclone Yutu in Saipan. Before moving to Ithaca, she was a tenured Professor at South Texas College of Law in Houston, where she taught Constitutional Law, The First Amendment, and related courses. She's participated in numerous lectures and podcasts addressing the intersection of disasters, human rights and constitutional law, including recent court cases involving religious liberty claims during coronavirus.
Jamie Loehr, MD, FAAFP has practiced as a family physician in Rochester and Ithaca, NY, for the past 30 years. He became especially interested in vaccines while discussing the topic with vaccine hesitant families in Ithaca. After writing a book about vaccines to share his perspective with his patients, (The Vaccine Answer Book - 200 Essential Answers to Help You Make the Right Decisions for Your Child), he did a part-time vaccine fellowship with the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP). He currently a member of the influenza workgroup of the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) at the Center for Disease Control (CDC).
Jeff Snedeker MD is a pediatrician and pediatric infectious diseases specialist at Northeast Pediatrics and Cayuga Medical Center at Ithaca. He earned his undergraduate degree at Cornell and his MD at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and completed a pediatric residency at Baylor College of Medicine and a pediatric infectious disease fellowship at Duke University, where he later served on the faculty of the School of Medicine. He has served as President of the Tompkins County Board of Health and the Cayuga Medical Center Board of Directors, and currently serves on the Infectious Disease SubBoard of the American Board of Pediatrics. He holds clinical faculty appointments at Upstate Medical University and at Weill-Cornell Medical College.
